Wainui Beach Surf Guide

Wainui Beach is a quality beach break setup just outside of Gisborne that has been compared to Hossegor and South Straddie, although it can't quite handle the same size as these more famous beach breaks. That being said, it can get quite hollow and produce fun barrels in the chest- to head-high range. Tends to get crowded when its good, especially on weekends. Numerous peaks available, all of which can get good on their day. At the northern end is a series of peaks called Whales, the site of a massive sperm whale grave. In 1970, 59 of the mammals beached themselves there.
