Ranch Surf Guide

The Ranch is a reef that runs across a wide cliff fringed bay. It has two passes and provides four different waves. On the north side of the bay is a nice left that's fun if the swell is small and easterly. Across the pass is the main break. A long heavy right, it has a couple barrel sections as it peels over the shallow reef. Depending on the swell this wave can give rides of up to 100 yards. There is also a left on the south side of this peak that works when there is more north in the swell and the right begins to close out in some sections.

Then there is the second pass and the right that breaks on the south side of the bay from the "Finger Rock," a tall obelisk that had a couple siblings that were knocked over in Hurricane Gilbert, and peels into the channel. This wave was first ridden in the '60s and is a genuine big-wave spot.
