Lawson's Bay Surf Guide

A longish right point, Lawson Bay is one of the better waves found in mainland India. Located directly in front of a large fishing village, the wave has good shape on the outside, and several sections through the inside before backing off. The shorter continental shelf on the east coast of India, particularly in the state of Andhra Pradesh, ensures the energy of longer-period groundswells coming up from the southern ocean is compromised as little as possible.

The wave is suitable for short or longboards, and is best on an offshore west wind, common in the dry season from February through mid-May. Paddle out between the rocks near the top of the point. Watch out for human fecal matter on the beach and in the water, depending on the tide.
