Bakio Surf Guide

Playa de Bakio may not be the top most people's list of places to surf in the Basque Country, but it is one that many visitors will find they do actually get to surf. Unlike their more famous and temperamental neighbor lying in the nearby Ria de Mundaka, Bakio is a beachbreak renown for its consistency and flexibility. A small stream dissects the town beach; to the west a large expanse of open sand with scattered peaks while to the east a series of rocky outcrops allow sand to build up into more reliable banks. In bigger swells a quality right breaks off this end and the locals will be on it. The crew here is pretty tight so come with a relaxed attitude. There has been some localism here.
