La Bocana

Surf Guide

Though El Salvador is typically known for its abundance of right points, La Bocana is the Libertad area's only genuine lefthander. Located on the south end of the little village of El Tunco, like its neighbor Sunzal, Bocana is a swell magnet and will almost always have something to ride. The only difference is that Bocana is far more punchier and difficult to maneuver than Zunzal. Bocana is the result of an open, cobblestone-lined rivermouth. After periods of heavy rain, the force of the river shifts silt, sand and cobbles north and south of the mouth frequently, which causes slight changes in the characteristics of the surrounding peaks. But the left in front of the river is unchanged -- a steep drop, a couple good sections, and a dredging inside barrel section.
