Point Pleasant Beach Travel & Surf Guide

Know Before You Go: Surf, Weather & Travel Info

Jenkinson’s:

Nestled between Manasquan Inlet and the secluded Island Beach State Park, this lively stretch is made up of beachbreaks that can pack a hefty punch. Separated from the mainland by Barnegat Bay, the narrow peninsula follows Route 35 through a strip of stately summer cottages. Beach access in summer can be as difficult as scoring a backstage pass to a Springsteen show (Bruce reference number five). In fall, the whole area turns on as the tourists vanish and the real swells take shape.

Jenk’s is a well-known left that ledges and winds along the beach on solid northeast swells. Currents can be dangerous at Jenkinson’s, so be wary. The vibe here is far from mellow; it can be downright intimidating. If you don’t know somebody, your best bet would be to try one of the less-crowded jetties to the south. It’s next to impossible to surf Jenk’s in the summer, as it is a privately owned beach and heavily guarded.
