About Asbury Park Surf Travel

Bruce! (Springsteen, that is). Well, that’s at least what people think of most when they think of Asbury Park (though The Boss was actually born in Long Branch). Asbury Park, as it happens, is also not a bad surf spot. Once upon a time, however, there was actually a law on the books stating you were not allowed to surf here. It was never enforced, presumably because the police were pretty busy chasing an array of criminals. Until recently, the place was pretty damn rough, but it’s on the way back. Not only have parts of the boardwalk been renovated with new stores and restaurants, but attractions have been added as well. There is also now an official surfing beach — complete with a sign that says ‘Surfing Only’. It is located north of the convention center at the far end of the boardwalk.

The waves in Asbury Park are pretty standard beachbreak. It isn’t as shapely as nearby towns, but it has its day, particularly during hurricanes and Nor’easters. When it’s good, it’s thick and there are barrels aplenty.
