2nd Street to 10th Street:
Wildwood is home to Guido the killer pimp, as well as the ASO, or Atlantic Surfers Organization, a group of waveriders that gets together to further the sport. The town boasts a large surfing community and a large population of weirdos during summer.
At 2nd Street to 10th Street, fun rights and lefts can be had on a medium swell, but it doesn’t handle size that well. From mid- to high tide, the shorebreak gets punchy. This is a really nice beach that, to some extent, has been allowed to return to its natural state. Rabbits, toads and a variety of birds inhabit the thickly vegetated dune field. Park on the street and walk the paths only; it’s about one block to the beach. All-day surfing is allowed in the summer from 8th to 10th Streets, and, best of all, no beach tags are necessary. The lineup is a nice mix of experienced elders and surf-happy groms.
