The Main Beach:
Like The Wall, Main Beach (as in the main beach of the lovely town of Hampton Beach) is another sand-bottom beachbreak, though it is slightly less consistent and far less crowded and watched over by the local crew. Absent of any bends, spits or elbows in the coast, Main Beach will become a closed-out mess at any real sniff of solid swell, and when it’s winter and there’s cubes of ice floating around the line-up, myriad close-outs sucks pretty bad.
And forget trying to go there during the summer months, as surfing is taboo. Instead, Main Beach becomes tourist central; domain of the pastie out-of-towner. Get stuck there on a hot summer day and, we promise, you’ll never return. For all our bad mouthing, however, the wave can actually become a great alternative to The Wall during the late-Fall and Spring months. Pick a peak and paddle out alone – no vibing from salty locals onshore either.
