Hana Bay:
Before you even get in the water at Hana Bay, you’ll be subject to a heart-thumbing session on the Hana Highway, or as it’s better known as, the Road to Hana. There is an estimated 600 turns on the highway, as well as 54 one-lane bridges, but the breathtaking views and pristine beaches are worth every inch of tricky driving. Hana Bay, located in Hana, is on the far eastern edge of Maui. The bay is protected from most groundswells by a reef off the end of each side of the bay, which usually provides safe swimming and good snorkeling for much of the bay. However, easterly tradeswell (very common all year long nearly everyday) or bigger North-East swells will get in and offer a fun peak near the center of the beach in front of the rivermouth. Unfortunately, Hana Bay will usually be blown out by the persistent easterly trade wind, but can get good when a front is passing through with offshore Kona winds.
