About Rehoboth Beach Surf Travel

Gordon’s Pond:

Gordon’s Pond, within Cape Henlopen State Park, can only be accessed by car from Rehoboth Beach, a 20-minute drive south. Rehoboth is a town with a large gay population, and Gordon’s has traditionally been a gay beach because of its secluded location. Men on the north of the jetty, women on the south. Things were pretty outrageous in the late ’80s with open-air, male-on-male sex. But after park rangers made hundreds of arrests for indecent exposure, things have mellowed out and/or moved into the woods. Weekends at Gordon’s, however, should be visited only by those with an open mind. It could be pumping, and we don’t necessarily mean the surf. This is an average beachbreak, but might be a good spot to get away from summer crowds. Bring all your provisions because Gordon’s Pond is a half-day trip only. The only facilities available at this secluded beach are Porta Pottis. It’s located just north of the millionaire gated communities of Henlopen Acres and North Shores, therefore, unwashed surfers are prohibited from stopping, standing or parking. Getting to Gordon’s can be a bit of a hassle in the summer because you have to contend with the Rehoboth Beach traffic. A daily user fee is in effect from Memorial Day to Labor Day and weekends only during May, September and October.
